Has anyone ever had an inflamed gal bladder? I am asking because last Tuesday I had surgery for bi lateral hernia repair. Was feeling much better by Sunday and was starting to potter around and pop to the shops etc. Monday night had an awful pain just above my ribs on the right side. It was so bad cant describe it but felt like muscle cramp and someone twisting knife at same time every time I moved. Also felt like some sort of pressure like something heavy was pushing into my side. I was up most of Monday night and really thought I had a blood clot or something and was dying. Rang my friend Tuesday morning at 5.30am and she took me to a@e. They took blood and poked and prodded and think I have an inflamed gal bladder. They sent me home with antibiotics and pain killers and said to go to my gp to arrange an ultrasound. I could only lay still on the setee yesterday and today I have been a bit better and able to move about a bit but still have the sensation of something being there when I bend or cough or move certain ways. Has anybody ever had gal bladder trouble and is it this painful? Also what does a gal bladder do. I thought it may have been something gone wrong when they did the hernia repair but the doctor at a@e said no.

I had my gall bladder removed twenty years ago, yes it is a very painful disorder in fact ive never suffered pain like it, but also it could be a hiatis hernia, but once you had the scan it should reveal just whats causing you the pain

Had to have mine removed about two years ago - I can honestly say I've never gone through pain like it so can really sympathise :(  It had been troubling me for a couple of months and I'd been getting treated by my GP for a possible ulcer while also being put on an 18 month  waiting list for an ultra sound!  Didn't have to wait anything that long thank God as ended up being taken in for emergency operation to have it removed by keyhole surgery.  After being assessed at A&E and while waiting to be taken to theatre several hours later they doped me up with morphine - can truly say even although I was in a stupor as far as my brain working was concerned it wasn't strong enough to ease the pain   The surgeon later told me it was the most severely infected gall bladder he'd removed in 15 years and that I was lucky they had been able to use keyhole surgery as it was in grave danger of rupturing  as you can imagine I wanted to kill the administrators of the NHS at that point but wasn't exactly well enough to do anything about it!
The good thing is we don't need the horrible little things - incidentally you'd be amazed at how small they are for the huge area of agony they seem to spread over :P

My very best wishes for a SPEEDY diagnosis and cure,  Teri :)
