Could anyone recommend a good pet insurance for a Lab puppy? (Not too expensive!) Is it worth getting him insured?.

i am with rspca pet insurance myself. but i read a post recently that marks and spencer are doing pet insurance at a reasonble price also pet plan. i think it is well worth the insurance cover for those unexpected emergency if they ever occur.

I would always recommend insurance as you just dont know whats around the corner :(

Try Pet Plan may be a bit more expensive but to date have met all claims we have made. Also beware some policies contain clauses that prevent you from making the same claim more than once for the same illness, they add an exclusion clause to that affect when renewal time comes around. Another point to watch out for is if there is an age limit on the policy.

This is only one company out of many, but do check carefully what each offers as it does vary.

Should you get insurance? definately! not only to cover health, but think of the consequences if your dog runs into the road and causes an accident, your household policy may not cover it.

I would say that yes, insurance is definitely a worthwhile investment - for one dog, particularly a youngster, it's a relatively small monthly outlay for a very large amount of peace of mind :)

I use M&S (Marks & Spencers) - they are very competitively priced and for literally a few extra PENCE a month you can do away with paying any excess at all which is where a lot of the other companies fall down.  Additionally they provide lifetime cover so don't suddenly drop you at the end of the year because you've put in a claim their not happy with and their level of cover per illness is also quite a bit higher than some of the more obvious major players.

In fact, us M&S folk should really stop recommending them because the more folk that use them the more claims they'll get and they may change their ideas in future :P

So, on second thoughts Guest, ignore the foregoing twaddle and go somewhere else :D :D :D

I have my Lab insured with Marks & Spencers, £11.91 per month, no excess.

I had to send a claim in last week, which they would have received on Thursday. I received their cheque back today, the whole thing taking 7 days which I think is pretty good.  I also only started the policy in January so, unusually for insurance, I'm quids in!!
