Hi, i have a japanese akita bitch, three and a half years old, she has been hip scored and eye tested & i want her to have a litter. I know nothing about the breeding of dogs, so would be very grateful if there are any akita breeders out there who could give me some advice. I can be contacted on my mobile number 07810 384088 or lesley@theseasid.fslife.co.uk Thanks, and i look forward to any replys.

1. Go back to your breeder, ask him/her to assess your bitch - is she of the right temperament to breed from? Be advised by him/her.
2. Buy a copy of The Book of the Bitch - read this through several times to make sure that YOU could cope with all that goes with breeding. If after all this you do go ahead, please be aware of the fact that with a big breed like the Akita, you must be prepared to stay with your bitch & puppies 24 hours a day for the first two weeks.
You are asking the right questions - you have started your preparations well, by having her hip scored - has she had her eyes tested yet? She should have an annual clear eye certificate as well as hip score clearance - what was her hip score by the way?
In order to answer these questions I've asked, and in order to answer all the other questions that you are likely to be asked by others - and to ask more questions yourself, you ought to register here - we don't all bite :D :D
Everyone has to start somewhere, and if you do have a good bitch, and by breeding from her you are breeding for the good of breed, good luck to you. You will see from the other posts on Champdogs, that none of us on here approve of breeding for greed!!
Good luck
