Could anyone give me advise on getting a second dog, I have a 2year old shepard and a 15month old baby.  Needs to be playfull and good with children, didnt really want a second BIG dog.

What sort of shepherd? German shepherd, Australian shepherd, Belgian shepherd? Not that it matters really, because the majority of breeds are fine with others, so it boils down to your preferences.

If you're really stuck for ideas your best bet is to go to the Discover Dogs section at crufts (March 10th - 13th) at the NEC, Birmingham, where you'll be able to meet examples of all the breeds recognised by the Kennel Club, and chat to their owners.
