Does anyone have a quantum meter for their gas? where you have credit card type card and can put so much money each time on for your gas. We have one of these fitted and are putting £120 per month in for gas . I wouldnt mind but our house isnt huge (3 bed semi).  We have had corgi registered plumber to check all our appliances and they are fine.  Does anyone else have one of these fitted and what have your experiences been?

I would check with your supplier as it could be that the previous occupier had a debt to clear and the tariff on the meter was adjusted...

Hi I have a friend who has a Quantum metre and she was only talking about how much is is putting on her card each week, compared to last year. she was saying that £14 did her a week on her card last year, now she is putting £25 a week and says she is only using the same amount, she lives in a two bed quasi semi so not a big property. gas prices havent risen that much ? have they

Gas companies charge more for this type of meter than if you pay by direct debit or some other way.

Hi

Im on the same with british gas, and the amount I have been putting on since before christmas. Has just gone through the roof

I have phoned them, and they are currently investigating it, which takes a month they say

They believe I owe them money, and it appears I am paying this debt off. Everytime I credit the metre, My electric 1 is the same. I dont owe them a penny.

I have had nothing but aggro, with BG for the last 6 months. And I am currently changing supplier. :)

something sounds very wrong here to me,  I have just moved house (end of Jan) and I had one of these meters for 12 years at my old house and in the summer I only used about a fiver a week and in the winter I was using no more than £50 a month.  It was a five bedroomed terraced house.  sounds to me that someone has made a big cock up somewhere as prices cant have gone up by that much surely!!!!  my supplier was southern electric for both my gas and electric.

oh there is big cock up

last year, I topped my electric card up, (smartcard) and it failed on the meter, and has done so several times. I got really fed up with it. U know if it was an oap, or young single mum, with no money, they would be in deep stuck. I was continually lied to by call centre ops, But no-one was willing to do anything about it. The last time it happened was last month. So I told them i wanted a new meter, after much hoo hah, they finally agreed to it. The engineer who came to fit it. Told me there was a big problem, with the software that transmits the info, from card to meter etc. but no-one admits to it.  so obviously something is going on

I would get your supplier to check that your not paying back a bill they think you owe it has happened to a few people I know myself inculded if you feel that you are using to much then you can ask them to check the meter but its hard to get them to come out a friends was found to be faulty and she had been paying to much for a long time

BG charge me £50 a month, to heat 4 rooms.  Most of my cooking is electric not gas.  It only comes on twice a day for a couple of hours a day.  To me it seems extortionate but they don't care less.  Have just changed over but I still owe BG quite a bit of money and it really annoys me that when you enquire with them they just don't care less at all.

When the meter was fitted they should have left you an instruction book. There is a program you can enter and find out if any debt is being taken.
Some meters are set to recover any debts. There is also a maximum they are alloud to take.I cant remember how much it is.
I was the first to fit these meters.
Its a while ago now and ive been retired nearly 10 years so ive forgot.
If you havn't got the instruction book.Phone your supplier for one.
You do pay more for your gas on a Pre Payment Meter.
If you think your meter is faulty you can send it for a goverment test. Its not cheap.
Hope this helps.
