I wonder can anybody give me some advice as i am worried about Banya.
She is a 4 year old Belgian Shepherd bitch and normally seems very healthy.
A fortnight ago she passed some mucousy stools and a bit of blood and i took her to the vet who examined her and gave us some kaolin and bacteria to balance the intestinal flora (Pro Kolin). She improved after one day and was back to normal.
NOw again we had the same problem, but her poos seem not really mucousy any more, but bloody and in fact she has passed little drops of blood here and there and keeps asking to go out. Her stomach keeps making rumbly noises and she is eating grass which is the same as a fortnight ago.
She has always had a sensitive stomach because in the past she has been a bit sick in the morning if she doesn't have a biscuit before 8am, i feel this may be like an "acid stomach" where she just needs a bit of food to get rid of that feeling and then she is totally fine.
Very occasionally in the past she has had mucousy stools, but no other signs and it has cleared up on its own. the vet previously did say it is normal for dogs to have a bout of what she termed colitis, but i feel this can't really be normal; however i am a bit reluctant to go back to the vet because i feel they may just give me more Pro Kolin, although i will book her in for tomorrow.
What would peeps advise, and has anyone else had a similar problem?
At the moment i am thinking i want to get to the bottom of it and not just treat the symptoms if you see what i mean.

Lindsay,
One of my Boxers used to get similar symptoms from time to time. We never got a name for it but he had bouts until he died at 11. I learned to deal with it by withholding food then reintroducing his normal food gradually. Looking back I think he had a sensitive tum generally as he had dire rear after worming with certain wormers which we then had to avoid.
If Banya is anything like Kapra she'll look sooo miserable and tucked up it would break your heart. no boby ever suggested probiotics but they sound worth a try. Knowing you you'll have thought about anything different in her diet that might have triggered the bouts.
Hope you get her sorted out soon.
Anne
Thanks for your kind message Anne; sorry to hear your Boxer had problems.
I am worried, but she's booked in at the vet now for another check up this afternoon. I have been told there is a lot of bacteria going round dogs at the moment because of the mild winter and that i sh0uld get her stools tested, i hope to goodness it is just that.
We also have new neighbours and so lots of new noises plus 3 new cats so i'm not sure if that has upset her, it's unlikely i would say but she does seem to be affecte by changes in the environment a bit.

Hi lindsay i have had similar problems with my dog, i gave the vet a stool sample and the results were he had clostridia bacteria and he was treated with metronidazol tablets, this bacteria is found in soils and other places and is apparently quite common in dogs. Hope your dog is better soon.
Hi thanks, was this recently at all?
My girl has just been to the vets and we've been given antibiotics, bland food (i may make some of my own later, it's for a 2 week period) and an anti inflammatory injection. We shall have to wait and see, fingers crossed!!!

Yes this was recent he is still also on bland food (chicken & rice) when he goes back to normal feeding i have to give him a food for sensitive stomachs. Good luck with your dog. :)
