This soes sound like it is a mild Kennel Cough.  There are more sinister reasons for coughing, so if you are worried or he seems unwell, excersise intolerant then consult your vet.  If it is Kennel Cough do not take him out as it is contageous and can be quite serious in young pups or elderly dogs whose immune systems are not at full strength.

There's been quite alot of kennel cough about at the moment.
I guess you've been really lucky to avoid kennel cough for this long. :)

Unfortunately when showing dogs it does seem to be a hazard hard to avoid.
I've missed it so far this season, primarily probably because I've not been
entered/present at some shows where dogs have come down with it afterwards.

Only thing to remember though if you think it is KC, to leave your pup in your car
until they call you at the vets. That way you are minimising the risk to others in
the waiting room.

Kind Regards
Kirstine

Thanks for the replies, yes the poor little mite has kennel cough grr hopefully the medication will soon start to work and he will recover well, just keeping fingers crossed the others dont get it, the vet said he is better to get it now than when he is older.

My sympathy is with you, Kayla had  kennel cough towards the end of last year, most probably picked up at a show. She was on antibiotics for 2 weeks plus a kids dose of benylin daily and garlic in her food to help her immune system. It seemd to work as the cough subsided after about 6 days and she was fine a few weeks after that. It  was really bad at the start though, she couldn't move withourt having a coughing fit and she couldn't even muster a bark!!! Luckily Chloe didn't get it too, she hadn't been to the show and every time Kay coughed she left the room with a disgusted look on her face!!!!
We only missed 2 shows, decided to paly my little part in not spreading it around and she wasn't allowed out for a walk for about 3 weeks-nightmare :D!!!!

I once had it with a whole litter of pups and 2 adults it was awful.  The vet wouldnt give antibiotics to the pups and I will say they fought it well.  It really annoys me when people take their dogs to shows with it which is where we have caught it 3 times even though ours are vaccinated.  My best friends dog has her throat scarred permantly because she has got it twice.  Very nasty disease.
