Can people please advise on when a vet should be consulted if a bitch has gone past the 63 days with no sign of whelping having started. She was mated only once on day 12 and yesterday was day 63, so far no sign of anything happening, still eating, sleeping contentedly, etc. When should I start worrying and take her to the vet, and what will the vet do? She is a 3 year old cocker spaniel, first litter. I don't think it is a big litter, probably only 2 or 3 (vet could only feel 2). Thanks for any advice.

What's her temperature been doing for the past week?

I don't know because when I tried this she became so upset and so did I in case I was hurting her, should I try again even if she struggles?
If she is not very big it might possibly be worth a trip to the vet in case she has re absorbed. I had a Jack Russell which did this to me twice even thought the vet confirmed she was pregnant both times. Hopefully it is just because she has got a small litter and nothing to worry about.

Can you still feel movement etc? does her tummy feel hard and tight? it's not unusual for them to go over, one of my girls delivered on day 65 with her first litter and she only had the one mating!
If you are worried, pop her along to your vets I'm sure they can put your mind at rest.
Good luck

yes I can still feel movement, seems like one pup on each side, quite lively. Her stomach is quite hardish, but she is normal in herself. It will be day 65 tomorrow, perhaps if there is no sign of anything in the morning I should contact the vet? I don't want unnecessary interference, but obviously want to err on the side of safety. By the way SharonM, I thought your pups were lovely in the photos, do you have any of them now? We hope to keep one of Hollie's.

All my pups have gone to their new homes now :-( I feel redundant.......but we did keep a lovely black and white little girl called Lily!

Val you took the words out of my mouth. I couldn't be without my themometer for indicators. :-)
