It's known by several names. Tortion, Bloat, Gastric Dilatation with or without Volvulous. Any dog of any breed can get it, but it's more likely in breeds that are deep chested, or narrower when viewed from above than they are deep. The stock advice is not to ever exercise a dog either an hour before or an hour after eating and don't allow a dog to gorge on water. GDV is a Veterinary emergency, time is of the essence.

I have had the misfortune to own an Irish Setter that died as a result of GDV.
