I live in Aberdeenshire, Scotland & would like to know if there is any reputable breeders in Scotland that breed Field Spaniels?
I have owned a Field Spaniel in the past as a pet while living at home with my parents & he had a lovely temprament & the best part was that he never needed a hair cut!
I have my own family now & would love to make one of these dogs part of it!

I afree they are a lovley breed and not as maqnic as some of the spaniels.  Your best bet is to contact the breed club *FIELD SPANIEL SOCIETY. Sec. Mrs J Holgate. Tel No: 01282 865705*

They are a lovely breed but they are definitely not for everyone! Please read this this leaflet produced by the Field Spaniel Society who probably best describe this breed-they can be a wonderful companions, but only if in the right home with the right lifestyle and with those who fully understand them!

Its funny i always  was told that a field spaniels were quite a handful, although lovely dogs they needed an experienced owner. However i recently was looking through a breed book and it stated that field spaniels were ideal for first time owners. Yet cocker spaniels/cavaliers were not ideal. Strange.

Which breed book was this?! I would say they were anything but ideal for first time owners-they definitely need a particular type of home and owner for everyone involved to be happy!

The new Gwen Bailey, "choosing the right dog for you" book. It also says that flatcoats and labs are ideal first dogs but golden retrievers aren't. Otherwise it is quite a good book, but some parts of it are a bit strange.
