Please help! I got a 3 year old English Mastiff, in November '04, from a local rescue centre. She is great when we are in the house and she is great when out for walks, on or off the lead. She gets on fine with my other dog and the children. She obeys all the basic comands, sit, down, stay and so on, she is lovely. The problem is when I go to work.I leave the house at around 8-30am with the kids and if I am home before 12-30 there is no problem but if I am any later she has been on the worktops and destroyed anything she can fine, like the kettle, the toaster, the microwave and untold numbers of tea towels. today she managed to turn on the tap and had flooded the kitchen. I really do not want to have to give her away but I can not keep coming home to this mess and I cannot afford to keep replacing the things she chews up. I have tried going out of the back door and leaving the tv on and my jumper behind the door but it didn't work. I have left her with bones and kongs filled with goodies but none of that worked either.

If you're away for no more than 4 - 5 hours you could crate her (longer than that would be unkind in a crate). Or you could build a secure kennel and run for when you're out.

A Mastiff would need one heck of a crate - and the room to store it......  Do you have a small room where you could leave her?  Dog Appeasing Pheramones defussers (DAP) may help too - available from your vet (and sometimes on Ebay....)

im sure you can get crates suitable for giant breeds, crating for a few hrs is better than her having to find another home, good luck !

They do Great Dane-sized crates, so I'm sure they do Mastiff-sized ones too.
