my 9 month old bitch alsation has just died the vet said it was nurological meningitus is it contagious or in the area as my neighbours white alsation got the same thing 14 month ago and she sadly died also but the same age as mine she had just had her 1st season can you help me please you dont hear of it then you get it two dogs next door to each other thanks alison collingwood

So sorry to hear about your bitch and your neighbour's dog.
There was a magazine article which mentioned canine meningitis, and listed the causes as:

bacterial infection
canine distemper virus
toxoplasmosis
cryptococcosis
neosporosis
steroid responsive

Clinical signs being,
stiff neck, head pressing, behavioural changes and a dislike of being handled.

The vet concerned said she had only had 2 cases in 15 years of practise, both dogs survived (both were young adults) but both had further recurrence of the meningitis, which did respond to the same treatment.
I suppose it could be contagious looking at the sumptoms, (JMO as i am not a vet)but I suspect it is very rare, maybe have a chat with your vet? :)
