Can anyone please advise me on the best training method for my Lab.  He is now 1 year old and a real handful.  We have done the puppy class thing but he is just so interested in playing with the other dogs that it has made it impossible for us to return as it upsets the other owners!  We are trying our best at home but with very little success, I have been looking at possible one to one training or redisential training kennels.  Any suggestions?

one to one brillaint idea......residential is good too.......just make sure the kennels are somewhere you can drive too each day....or there is accomadation for you as well.

Hi Guest well for a start i would find a different Training club.If just by wanting to be a typical playful Lab pup , People are upset by him then hell i would not want to go to that club anyway .Good god what do people expect. He is still a baby. At our club the worst Culprits and i say that with a big grin on my face are the Lab and Retriever Pups. They are so full of the joys and hell i know what i would rather have in my class is that type of Pup than the ones that are trying to Kill other Class members.Guest find yourself a decent Dog-Club that understand babies will be babies. And one to one training is ok but it is not the same as in a group of pups and the socialising aspect etc

I agree with a different training club - one to one is all well and good, but it doesn't teach your dog to concentrate on you when there are other distractions around, and residential doesn't help the bond between you and your dog, which must exist for further training to occur.  With a good training club you should have an experienced instructor and the support of the other dog owners, many of whom will be experiencing the same problems as you.

A good place to look is the APDT website:  http://www.apdt.co.uk/list_trainers.asp
