Absolutely not. You must leave no stone unturned as you do your own very extensive research into your chosen breed and breeder. Nobody but yourself is responsible.

Sadly not just because a breeder advertizes on the breeder pages does not guarantee the quality of their puppies

It would be impossible for Admin to vet the breeders to the level that I suspect you require, it would be up to you to carry out further checks by perhaps confirming that they are a member of a breed club and that they conform to the clubs ethics in terms of recommended health tests, age of dam etc., a visit to their home and a look at their dogs should enable you to determine that they are kept in good conditions and further questioning should determine that any puppies are resulting from a pairing that was chosen as the best possible match and not just because the breeder owned the stud.

I would always advise to check the standing of any breeder with the relevant breed club, they will knwo the good breeders and also be aware of many of the rogues exploiting their breed.

Unfortantly the Kennel club could give you a name and it won't mean your getting an excellent dog from a excellent, well respected breeder!

It is a bit like the DVLC, they register cars, but can't tell you if the vehicle is a good make or not, only what the manufacturer has given as it's details, Model, make, horsepower etc.

if you are looking to buy a puppy your best bet if you are not sure about finding a reputable breeder is the breed club.

Visit visit visit. don't go to the first breeder and take the first pup offered. Not all breed clubs are totally honest and can direct you into the way they want you to go. Our club secretary once sent a lady to me saying " She breeds the best of the wrong type" in other words even though I breed the type that has won all over europe it was not the type they like and then they direct you to a friend who has a litter. This never worries me. I have a major waiting list. but you should keep an open mind and meet all people with or without a puppy at the end of the day.

Well if a our club secreatry behaved like that then I would complain to the clubs committee!!! 

All they should comment on is the fact that you abide by the clubs rules regarding breeding and homing practice, doing the relevant health tests and are reputable, no opinons on the stock of other breeders should be made, as I would say that was most unethical.

Our club has a puppy/forthcoming puppy list.

It used to be a bity adhoc, and if there were no pus around then they got a list of breeders, trtouble was some had stopped breeding years ago, some only bred once in 5 years or so, and some people newer to the breed weren't included at all.

The current system works very well, it is asked that breeders advise on a 12 month rolling basis of their breeding plans (likely month litters planned for), so if there are no pups currently available prospective owners have a chance of getting on a waiting list.

So anytime someone contacts the secretary they will be sent details of current and future litters planned in the coming 12 months.
