Topic Dog Boards / Health / Lump on testicle
- By Ussher [gb] Date 31.01.05 11:35 UTC
Hi,

Our dog is 11 months and around 4 weeks ago he developed a large scab on one of his testicles which was hard and bleeding.  We took him to the vet and they said it was possibly an ulcer and gave him 2 injections, anti-biotics and a cream.  He stayed in kennels in the past week as we were away and when we got him back, we found the scab to be worse with skin flaking away and a lump on the other testicle.  We are now thinking it is something more serious and he is seeing the vet again later today.  Does anyone have any clue what is wrong, any similar experiences?  Is this going to be the horrible C word?

Thanks for any replies.

Is this a slight pointed hardening at the back of each testicle?  If so, it is normal when a pup matures (a vet once told me it is for sperm storage) don't know if it is true.  When you first notice it, it is often flaky and dry.  Don't know about bleeding though.  I assume your vet knows best, but when you said it is on both testicles it did ring a bell.  The owner of a pup I sold panicked once and rushed to the vet.  Luckily the vet just pointed out the same area on the other testicle and told her the pup was now a man!! (So to speak)

Just to update, he has now been to the vet and has a very bad infection.  I cannot remember the name of it because i was on my own and didn't take everything in.  He is on Synulox and Medrone for 2 weeks.  The vet said that this particular infection is very difficult to get rid of because of where it is and that the end result could be castration if this happens.  I am just giving him the medication religiously and hoping that won't happen.  The vet also wants to see him in 2 weeks.

For anyone else who sees a lump on a dog around 11 months, the vet said not to jump to the conclusion it is cancer and lumps are reasonable common in a dog that is maturing.  It is so easy to panic!

Lumps in maturing dogs are quite common as Ussher says. My 11 month old had a lump on his hip and it grew at an alarming rate.....but it was nothing to worry about.
Hope your boy feels better soon Ussher xxx

I understand you did not contact Jackie as I suggested in my PM to you last night.
