My sons girl friends parents who have never owned a dog before, are thinking
of getting one. They want something that doesnt drool, doesnt moult, thats intelligent and easy to train. I suggested a miniature poodle.

A message came back, no poodles are a womens dog, and anyway they want a gundog.

I used to own a Golden Retriever and she was very intelligent, but she moulted.

Any suggestions.

Forgot to say and she used to drool.

Can't really think of a gundog that doesn't moult, are you sure they are temperamentally suited to a dog if all these things annoy them :)
You could try reminding them that poodles were originally bred as a water retreiving breed and they should be old enough to remember Dirty Den walking his Standard Poodle around Walford and he had no issues with his masculinity did he :D

Irish Water Spaniel is the only gundog that I can think of that doesn't moult
