Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Does my boxer have a Phantom pregnancy
- By Guest [gb] Date 30.01.05 05:05 UTC
Hi all.

My Boxer is now 2 1/2 years old and has just recently finished her second season. The last 2 days she has became really protective toward one of her toys. She is fine when either me or my wife are near her and even the son is fine around her but if anyone else goes near her when she has this particular toy she becomes very aggresive. She is carrying this toy all over the house and takes it where ever she goes. Has she had a PHANTOM PREGNANCY?

If so what do I do? She is due to be spayed in March (This date advised by vet). Will this stop it?

Should I take this toy away from her?

Should I leave her the way she is and wait for this problem to blow over?

Please help!

Thanks very much for the help in advance.

Sounds like a phantom. Spaying will eliminate this in future.

Take the toy, and any others that she may be 'nesting' with away. Give her plenty of exercise and cut down the protein in her food (she will be wanting to build up her bodily resources for the 'litter'). If she gets really bad the vet can give you some medication for her.
