Has anyone any tips on what I should look for in a trainer for Barney. I just cannot get him into any training classes near where I live as they are all full and I cant take him out in the car for too long a journey at present cos he hates it and is sick so we are car training him very slowly in the daylight as he is worse in the dark. We have picked up details from two vets practices between us today and am wondering what I should be looking for in the adverts we have found.
Many thanks Gina.

Near the old Croydon Airport just before Purley. I have tried Warlingham but they are full and I took Barney to one to have a look as they were full near Crystal Palace Football Ground but it was horrendous as it was on the same night they play football (2 teams use the pitch) and it too far too long. They couldnt fit him in but I took him to meet the other dogs but the traffic was horrendous. Regards Gina

Hi Gina,

Have you tried any anti sickness tablets for your dog? When I first got Molly she was not a lover of the car and my vet (sorry can't remember the name) gave me some pills and it solved the problem! Now we can't get her out of the car! Plus in the summer she really sulks as we hardly take her out in the car for the heat, only if we are going to her walk will she come in the car never left, boy does she throw a strop!

I have tried half a sealeg but didnt work but will try again and Terri said to try ordinary sickness tabs so will try them too. The vet "gave" me some homeopathic ones today (4 to try). They are small and it says on the label to give half a tablet BUT NOT to touch the pills with your hands and to try and put it in the dogs mouth with a spoon. Can anyone tell me if this is the norm?? Wondering how to break it in half!! Also no name on the bottle to say what they are? Thanks Gina

If they are homeopathic, you mustn't touch them with your hand.

Sarah

Do you know why? I use Travella for myself, both my boys are fine in the car, they are homeopathic and says nothing about not touching them with your hands?

Pam n the happy travellers:-)

Pam

It is something to do with the way that homeopathic tablets are distilled a number of times to make them as concentrated as they are, and touching them alters the properties of them.

I am not great at Science so my answer probably doesn't sound toatally convincing, perhaps yours are working as placebo's would :p

hmmmmmmmm must admit, not a convincing explanation for me. Surely as soon as they are in your mouth you are touching them and so altering the properties.

The ones I use are often used for dogs and while placebo's work for humans, they won't work on dogs, unless it is the stress from the human they are picking up on and maybe that is what makes them sicky or bad travellers. So if the owner believes that the dog will no longer be sick, they are calmer and so the dog is calmer. Don't know if this is at all true - just a thought :D.

What I have found works well on children and I'm convinced it's psychosomatic(SP) rather than accupressure, are those wrist bands with the bobble on them. Anytime the kids say they feel quezy in the car - I pass them the bands and within minutes they usually feel better.

As far as I'm concerned when it comes to anything like this - all that bother me is if it works or not - if it does great:D

Hi Pam

I did a quick google search and all sites said don't touch them :) but none had a real reason :( . I too go for the 'if it works' theory. A number of sites said try not to, the thing with homeopathy is that food, drink, toothpaste, smoking etc can also affect the tablets. Some sites even said try not to touch the rim of the tablet pots!
