I know its a bit early but im trying to book my hoilday at work, but then saying that Scotland is a long way and little Alf will only be 7 months then so I might not bother :)

Hi, The SKC is held at the Ingleston Exibition Centre Just outside Edinburgh, Easy to get to by car and very close to Airport. A little bit more difficult if travelling by train though. Loads of hotels in close by. I am planning to take Tia, Summer and Ellie, and handling Choc Lab for someone else.

I have relatives in Edinburgh but I dont know if they would appreciate having me and the dogs come to stay so I will probably end up in a hotel, we will be driving up from the south so it will be a bit of a trek which is why im still contemplating whether its worth going although ive never been to Scotland so it would be nice.
I will be showing Alfie my Irish pup, I wont be showing my other Irish Fagan so im not sure what he will be doing :D :D
Hi, i live in Edinburgh so if you've any questions or want to find somewhere to stay, gis a shout and i'll be glad to help.
We drove down to shropshire and back last saturday. Took about 10 hours including stops.
Murph who is 10 months did really well considering he barfed in the car last time we went to stirling.
If you need anything just pm me.
cheers

Scotland is a great place for a holiday BB. I am just outside Lockerbie about 50mins from Edinburgh, and Daughter no. 2 lives in Edinburgh. I travelled from Lockerbie to Malvern last year with Tia and Bailey at just 7 months, 14hour round trip and they slept all the way there and back
Howd you get them to sleep! Murph basically sat the whole 10 hours looking like eyore (dont know spelling) from winnie the pooh.

Rubber mallet Syndrome :D Their 1st journeys at 8 weeks were 7 and 5 hours respectively so as puppies slept all the time and I took them everywhere with me so they got bored with travelling. Now when I take them a 5 min journey they are all asleep before I am buckled up.
Ha, was looking for dog nytol or summit! Will maybe hire car more when we get our next one so she learns like yours!

Blondbird :-)))) honestly it isn't that far ;-) I come down south to all the shows. The motorway goes through Scotland to !!!! ;-))))
THe SKC is a very good show I think and worth the trip.
Where do you live?

im planning to go to the orkneys in august!!!! that is along way!!!!!

Alf is actually very good in the car but then he hasnt been on a trip longer than an hour :)
I live in Basingstoke, Hampshire which is on the M3 (the junction before Winchester ;) ) so how long do people reckon it will take us to drive up there ? I would like to go, it just seems such a long way :D :D
Have just looked at the atlas and can see you are right at the bottom.
It took us 4 hrs from edinb to Shrops including breaks.
Go onto BT mulitmap and put in your post code and your destination. It will give you miles and times.
Good news is once your on M6 there's loads of places to stop.
If you do come up I'm sure there's a few of us who don't mind meeting you for a coffee! Reward or not depending on your point of view!!
>If you do come up I'm sure there's a few of us who don't mind meeting you for a coffee! Reward or not depending on your point of view!!
that would be great, but unfortunately im not too fond of coffee so im thinking a pub will be in order :D :D
Ive just had a look at Map Quest and it says it is 406.9 miles and will take approx. 8hr 15 mins which isnt so bad, I might even be able to do it in a day (I was thinking of stopping over half way :) )
Pub is even better!
I know of one or two where they would let a dog in or have a beer garden depending on the weather.
It lovely up here honest.
Feel free to contact me nearer the time if you want. I'll giv my number. To be honest ive never been to a show and would love to go to a gundog one just to see. Would be nicer to go with someone and have them explain stuff!

Hi Julie, I will be there too with my lot, just tag along with us. We will get you hooked lol :D :D
Kool, will you be at the same one in may?
Will get your number off you before then? Thanks

Looks like im going then :D :D
Im quite new to the show scene myself, I showed Afghans as a kid and now 20 years im starting over with the Irish Setters so its like learning all over again. You are more than welcome to tag along with us though, there is usually such a great atmosphere :)
Claire
I'm soo excited now. Want to see what the dogs are capable of.
Look forward to meeting you both at the time.
Do you need to book tickets in advance? Whats the cost? Just so i can put it aside and not spend it in the pub!

Blondebird, Depending on your driving you will be there a lot quicker, the M6 is a good road to drive on I think when going up north. 6 hours more like ;-)
Sometimes the road is so good I am there before I know it
>Depending on your driving you will be there a lot quicker
I have 6 points on my license, what does that tell you about my driving ;) :D
6 hours is nothing, I dont want to drive to fast though because it wont be very economical and I might get caught speeding again - I could do that in one hit though easy :)

BB go for SKC, I id it in august with my dad (he drove all the way) we did up show and back in 25 hours or something. We left at like 10pm day before, drove up, stoped off acouple of times for walk, and shut eye. We got to a little chef at about 5ish I think dad had a good long sleep, had breakfast when the little chef opend, then went on to the show. We live noth herts. Because we traveld overnight roads where clear for it was an easy journey. It was tiring (for me, I had to sleep all the way!!!) but no, go for it!
bit later mum and dad did scotland and back even quicker because they where both driving...and a fact for you here...glasgow to stevenage can be done in just over 5 hours...someone found out once when he got a call saying bitch had gone into whelp!!!!

Thats what I did when I took dogs to Malvern, drove 7 hours, couple hours kip in car, Both dog and bitch classes started at same time, shouted to steward from one ring to let them know I was in that class as well, ran from bitch ring to benching, replaced Tia , dragged Bailey to dog ring, got booted out :D and drove back home. Remind me again why we do this :D :D

You dont need to book tickets in advance, pay at the gate, cant remember how much as competitors dont pay this as they pay on entry schedules, but its not expensive, around £5 I think. But a word of WARNING, save up, lots of stalls to spend your money on. :D I had to borrow a friends credit card last year because I ran out of the cash I had limited myself to, I also left cheque book and cr. cards at home deliberately :D
Brilliant. Don't know whats more exciting ...seeing the dogs or putting faces to names!
I'll be at SKC on Gundog day, too. I'll have 2 dogs with me so will have a free pass (well, sort of). ;) You get 1 person in per dog, so 2 dogs make 2 people :D Don't know how early we'll be in yet, don't know if we'll be 1st or 2nd in the ring :) At least I'm only 1 1/2 - 2 hours drive away :D
doesnt say on your profile but what kind of dogs do you have?
Large Munsterlanders :D I have 3, but only 2 are/will be shown. Seska is only 13 1/2 weeks old just now, but will be old enough to be shown at WELKS, by 8 days ;)

Julie, if you want to go and see a dog show before then, I will be at Ingliston for the Calledonian, on Sat 5th February. Its quite a large Open, 380 class.
Caledonian is always a large and enjoyable show. I will be there with my gang of large munsterlanders aswell!!! lots of these munsters about these days!!!!
That would be fab but i have an assignment deadline on that Tuesday. Will pm you nearer the time! If I study hard it could be a reward!

I'm going too :d Will be there with Lastar my newly acquired Spanish champion, may be one of his first champ. shows. Taking Anton and I may stay for a few days and show my mums Pomeranian too !! Just depends on my families health, but fingers crossed I will be there, oh and if I'm able to train Mella to walk rather than do bunny hops all the time :d
