Topic Other Boards / Foo / Spam software?
- By Star [in] Date 26.01.05 10:53 UTC
I am now getting several undesirable spam e mails every day. I add to blocked senders list but every one seems to be a different address. Can someone recommend an inexpensive software. I tried downloading a couple of free ones but the one would not work cos I didnt know how to adjust my firewall. The other was an american one that would not work without a zip code which I did not have.
Its driving me nuts. I use OExpress, windows XP.
Thanks
Sue

I have the same problem.  I have closed the preview pain so anything that looks off I don't open and block, but it is a pain, as sometimes I ahve blocked legitimate mail.

Your best bet is to change your email address! Usually this is an easy option. However, I can recommend SPAM INSPECTOR if you want to keep your original email address Tucows You can get a 15 day free trial there and then it costs $20 or thereabouts :)

The info should be included when you download the free trial :) You should be able to pay with credit card with no problems :)

You only get 'several' ?? :D :D I (and lots of others get hundreds a day :D :D My experience of anti-SPAM software (very expensive, that we use at work) - is that it is next to useless as it still requires you to check the emails as you never know when you might be rejecting a 'wanted' email from a new source :( :( As you have found, using Blocked Sender is next to useless. One trick is to set up a new folder in your 'Outlook Express' and set up a mail rule that only sends emails actually addressed to you, to that folder (many of the spam messages that we get aren't addressed specifically to our email address).

Now that is something I couldn't understand How is it we get messages that aren't actually addressed to my email address?

For thickies like me how so you do this exactly have always been mystified by the Message rules facility?

Have a look here OE MEssage Rules and see if that helps :)

Failing that, go to Google and type in 'OE MESSAGE RULES EXPLAINED'  quite a few hits come up :)

If you want to try out the 'Mail Rules', you can set them up to automatically delete any message that contains certain words - like viagra and others that I wouldn't be allowed to mention on here :D But do be careful which words you add to the list :)
