I regularly feed my dogs raw eggs on top of their pasta.  I now have a pregnant bitch and I was wondering if they are like humans whereby you shouldnt feed them to them?

i wouldnt feed raw eggs at all because of samonella poisoning.scramble them they are just as good for them.

My dogs get raw eggs regularly,i've never had a problem.Just try and make sure they are free-range eggs, not the caged  ones.
If your'e a little paranoid giving them to your girl then very, very lightly scramble and fry. I've never had a preg. female so i cant say i've given them to one

Maysea have you ever heard of or met a dog that got salmonella poisoning from raw eggs? I havnt :)

no i havent rose but i own a bullmastiff and most breaders, books and websites tell you never give raw eggs i thought it must be because of samonella what other reasons unless it is just the bullmastiff bread.

why not the caged ones?

Eggs from caged birds may be similar in nutritional value to free-range eggs, but there is a lot more cruelty involved in producing them.

just got my bully book out .under feeding it says raw eggs should never be given, particularly egg white.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 10.02.05 11:14 UTC
I bet that was written (like some of my breed books) in the days when it was thought that the albumen in raw egg white was thought to inhibit the absorption of various vitamins from the food; raw egg yolk was always recommended. The egg-white theory seems to have been found to be false.

i feed scrambled egg to my bully do you think it is killing some of the nutientsor doesnt it make much differents

As I understand it salmonella is not a big issue with dogs since the acid in their stomach is a lot stronger than ours, lets face it there are enough people on this board that feed raw chicken to no ill effect, where as if we ate it we would be ill.

Also caged birds because of the nature of the way they are intensively reared are unhealthier & lot more prone to disease such as salmonella.

My dogs have raw eggs as an occasssional treat - shells an' all!!!
- By thomas-the-spot [gb] Date 11.02.05 13:46 UTC
Thanks for the advice folks.  Never tried the shells.  They only seem to like them raw when they are scrambled they look at them in disgust ditto when they are hard boiled. I was told years ago one on top of their food would improve their coats dont know if its and old wives tail but no dog I have ever owned has ever had a skin complaint.
