Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / To worm or not to worm?

I worm my bitches at 40 days pregnant until 2 days post whelp.  Recently I have been questioning this and wondered what other people's opinions on worming pregnant bitches are.

I never worm my bitches once they've been mated, I always do them just before, then they are wormed with the pups. Never had a great problem with worms (not me personally, of course :D) No great scientific reason, I just don't like giving anything unnecessary to them while they are (hopefully) pregnant.

I have wormed my bitches for all my litters over the last 10 years and now have wormed them for 4 generations without problems.

I worm my bitches probably a week or so before mating then not again until after whelping............this is on the advise of my vet!

I had litter of pups from never been wormed bitch last yr, had her & all pups fecal tested & it was still negative :)
Used to do what you do but not any more.

Yes Chrisitine, that would be a fair compromise I suppose. May well do that in future.  Thanks for advice :-)
