Could also be known as clostridia or clostridium.
My dog has just been diagnosed with this and was wondering if anyone has any experience in dealing with this problem. He has just finished a course of tablets called metronidazol, does he need to be put on a special diet? at the moment he is just on chicken and rice. The problem started a while ago he started to have runny poo's sometimes with blood in them this did not happen everyday sometimes they were fine,so i gave the vet a stool sample and this bacteria was found in him,the course of tablets is now finished and yesterday the runny poo's were back with a little blood. This is really starting to upset me now.

Duddles don't worry this is quite common in dogs at some stage, dogs being dogs. It is usually picked up from contaminated dog poo and can be brought in on our footwear. It is normally harmless as dogs like us have bacteria in our gut which prevents this one from becoming established.  Clostridia are a strain of disease causing bacteria that cause the symptoms you mentioned mainly diarrhoea which clears up in aday or two. Was your dog on antibiotics before these symptoms started? As antiobiotics can kill off the friendly bacteria and leave room for this bacteria to take up in the gut. The problem is it is a very reisilient strain of disease causing bacterium and form spores when the dogs excrete their poos. Therefore the area, including the dog's anal hairs and anything used to clean the mess with have to be thoroughly disinfected  with a pet friendly product. Your dog may have become reinfected. keep feeding steamed chicken , rice and a little veg in equal and small proportions.Blood in the stools is serious as the diarrhoea is usually self limiting and goes away. You should see your vet immediately as it could be leading to a more serious gut related condition with blood now in the stools or toxaemia caused by a build up of toxins . Ask your vet for a treatment which does not include antibiotics as clostridia are not the only bacteria the metronidazol is killing off and lays the gut open to further reinfection when the so called friendly bacteria are killed off and the clostridia replace it. When Danlo had it it cleared up on its own as I refused the antibiotic. Don't be too upset it will go away and I hope to read your dog is well soon.
