i want to introduce some chicken wings into my 8 mnth old bullmastiff's feed. totally new to this raw diet....im still going to feed him the complete food for now,but when adding wings   is it totally safe for them to eat the bones?
- By Fran [gb] Date 24.01.05 11:56 UTC
Yes it is totally safe as long as you feed them raw.

Its absolutely fine....also with a dog the size of yours try getting hold of some chicken carcasses...will give him more to chew at

I feed my adult cockers raw chicken wings, what is the youngest age I can feed them to pups?
- By Melodysk [gb] Date 26.01.05 17:56 UTC
Delta has had them from 8 weeks old :)

The breeder of my boys gives them chicken wings/necks to 'suck' on  as soon as she starts to wean

I thought I would try one.................well it was chaos.............11 pups all chasing after one chicken wing, they loved it though!  But I have to admit I took it away before they got to the bone........I'm still nervous feeding them to my adults, Rosie decided it would be great fun to swallow one whole, she started chocking, gums went very white......I had to remove it from her throat, so I'm still a little nervous about feeding them and tend to bash them up before giving them to the dogs.

Its fine to either 'bash' then or hold one end until they get the hang of them.Once the 'novelty' value wears off they eat them more 'sensibly' in most cases

Speaking from experience, if you have more than one dog chicken wings never lose their novelty value, and always have to be either held individually for each dog while the others are out of the room, or minced.

My 4 still love their wings but whereas they used to swallow thenm whole they are now used to them and chew them first...thats all I meant :d

My bitch will happily chew chicken wings, but my dog swallows them whole so they now get carcasses (though my dog only tends to chew these a couple of times before swallowing them  ) I feed my dogs separated by gate, as they will both gulp their food down if fed too close together.

Mine eat theirs from their bowls within 18 inches of each other - never had any problems :)

I've not had any problems with my lot either. They too swallowed them without hardly chewing them in the beginning, but now they are much more sensible and usually settle down and chew them :)

I've got 2 bullmastiff's also,aswell as 2 tibetan spaniels.

Mine swallowed them whole  when they first had them, now they seem to savour them. Pups had them from 5 weeks - Mum enjoyed finishing them off

Anwen and Rose
Thats exactly what I mean...at first they swallow and then when they get used to them they learn to take their time and chew
