- By Guest [gb] Date 22.01.05 20:11 UTC
Hi could anyone tell me if it is normal to be asked to pay 75 pounds extra to have my pup kc'd, the lady has also asked me to pick two kennel names for the registration but I've not a clue, Many Thanks for any advice
- By ice_queen Date 22.01.05 20:18 UTC
no its not normal, most breeders will register a whole litter :)

chooseing kennels names, for example we have capriccio, flamenco, handsome does, cobiare (can't spell) bell-air, red red wine, kerry dawn , golf strem, band of gold, blue by accident, collectors item, fluer.... all these come after the affix!

If a breeder is asking more on top of the price I would be very careful , it dosent sound normal , reputable breeders register all there pups and include the fee in the price they ask , you could be being over charged ,

go to the breed club of the type of pup your looking for ,these can normaly be found on the net , by putting in which ever breed  ____ breed club uk  in a search engine . look for your local club ask them if its a know reputable breeder or ask them if they know of any in your area :) tell them what youve found with this breeder some do check them out , they like to know whos in the area :)

All pups in the litter should be registered and no extra fee should be charged for this. The cost of this is £12 per pup. Some people are give the choice of name for the pup. I personally name my pups in a particular way, but have given the choices to prospective owners to choose from. I would be very wary of a breeder charging any extra for registration let alone £75

No I didn't charge any extra for my pups to be KC-reg (I KC registered ALL my pups) and anyhow unless the KC registration
has gone up dramatically it doesn't cost £75 per pup to be registered.
It cost £10 per pup 3 1/2 years ago, think it may be approx £12 per pup now...definately not £75!!

The KC do ask for 2 names just incase the first name chosen is refused by them for registration purposes.
Hence why you have to have a back-up.
I was lucky when I registered my litter got all my first choices :)

If you go onto the KC Website, £12 per puppy, KC pedigree extra. The "Enhanced Five Generation Pedigree" is £15, or with champions in red £20 so the maximum would be £32. I would always expect it to ALWAYS be in the price of the puppy.

Sounds like this breeder is aiming to get rich!

sounds like the breeder is one to watch out for , if there dis honist about the amount to register the pup then are they honist about the pup . just be careful

Sounds like you are paying for the whole litter to be registered!!   There wasn't 6 pups in the litter by any chance?? ;-)

Obviously the costs have to be paid for but it is not usually mentioned, it's just in the price. If the breeder is going to do anything I would have thought they would have offered a discount for NOT registering. (Although I personally would never take an unregistered pedigree dog anyway!)

Totally agree John!!  sounds like one of those commercial breeders!!!  Mind you - you could add £30 for an Export Pedigree if it was going abroad.

We sell our puppies inclusive of registration BUT on the VERY RARE occasions that we have exported then I do charge for the export pedigree and any health certificates it might need.  I don't think that is unreasonable.

It beggars belief what some "breeders" (and I use that word in the loosest sense) charge for.

I completely agree Becky. Exporting means that you are incurring expenses over and above the normal and it is only fair that if someone wants to import one of your dogs that they pay those expenses.
