anyone got any advice for a fussy eater? we've tried leaving the food down for 10 mins then picking up no joy there though. we've tried most dog foods the one we had best luck with was jwb. she does go for chicken and tripe but we are quite worried about feeding this as she needs nutrients from complete puppy food? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

our staff is 10month old and eats mostly chicken/fish/beef mince with some Skinners muesli mix added which we started giving her at 6 months, also cheese and veg and fruit before that it was chicken, milky meals and tinned puppy food/mixer that her breeder had given her.I wasnt keen on her having tinned food though so I was glad when she became old enough to change . The Skinners has not been tested on animals and is free from additives etc,the breeder has used it with her dogs for 14 years.
I think they all love the meat though first and foremost. Is she fussy or is it just she has good days and bad days. Ours will eat for Wales one day and then hardly anything the next. What does yours have for breakfast, ours still has scrambled eggs every day and you can usually tell what day she is going to have by this meal. Most days she'll gobble it down and is waiting for her dish then on another day she'll barely bother.
Ours always eats the meat but then sometimes leaves the Skinners even though we have mixed it in,most days she eats the lot. If not because the food doesnt go off, we leave what she has left in her dish and she'll go and finish it later at night, even if its hours later.

Giorgia is fed about 7.30ish I suppose in the morning with a couple of treats in between or a light cheese triangle/banana or carrot  or something like that hen 12.45 lunchtime and 6.30 teatime but as I say if she doesnt eat all the dried food we leave it down. I have never given her tripe as I dont know alot about it , but they say dogs love it, so I would give it to her raw then? Perhaps I'll try it this weekend, yuch!
What colour is she, what is she like

thanks Staffy Man

she is brindle and white lovely markings she is actually a staff cross american bulldog. she is a very active mischevious little pup. word of advice with the tripe if you buy it frozen don't defrost in the microwave as i made that mistake last night not a very keen smell. stella loved it though so thats the main thing thanks for help might try introducing a few of the items you mentioned

ours is mostly white with a little red over the one ear/eye and a bullesye around her rumpl. They are beautiful arnt they and in to everything though. The other day we were upstairs and we couldnt find her, downstairs was shut and we found her sitting in the bath. Thank you for that warning I didnt even know you could get it frozen ! Stella is a lovely name means star in Italian, Giorgia is an Italian name as well, my family heritage! The fruit and veggies might help as the other poster said and the Skinners is a wonderful food its full of different colours and shape and texture.

If you are willing to feed raw chicken and tripe ahve you thought about feeding a completely raw diet.Just chicken and tripe is not a balanced diet but any dog of any age can be fed on a raw meat diet....it takes a little more time(not a lot) and effort than complete but is IMO well worth it
I have fed raw now for almost a year and wouldn't go back now....neither would my dogs I fear!!!

is it a strict diet with certain requirements if so r there any websites giving details about this diet?
- By archer [gb] Date 21.01.05 17:55 UTC
No not strict at all.It is very much down to the individual...we all do it differently. If you put barf or raw into the 'search' at the top of the page you will see loads of posts.
Mine get any kind of meat I can get hold of....tripe,beef ribs, chicken wings and carcasses, pigs trotters, lamb breast, heart liver etc.Its not hard or expensive and the dogs love it.Its also good for jaw and neck muscles since they have to chew and rip the meat as nature intended!
