Does anybody use a Tom Tom Go GPS device? Thinking about getting one and looking for opinions.
Thanks

My Brother - in - law has a tom tom - they are great . His was £400, but is only a sat nav. (idiot proof & easy to use though,)
I have a different type of GPS, mine is also a personal hand held pc and can do all sorts on it, but the sat nav is the same. mine was £250 (got it when on offer) I do around 30-35k miles per year so it really was worth every penny for me. :)
PS - Mine is a "my guide" with Falk Navigator
It's not let me down yet (touch wood)

Thanks, I only want GPS as I use my laptop for everything else. Also the idiot proof bit is ideal for me as I am a bit of a heathen when it comes to things like this.
p.s. nice to know I am not the only one doing that many miles!

Hi,
OH using tomtom navigator on his ipaq.
He is fairly happy with it, other than a few times when he's been going somewhere & the satallites haven't been picked up by the gps receiver.

I bought my husband the Tom Tom for Christmas. He's says it is the best pressie he's ever had!! Great device but don't know how much the new 'cards' are for different countries.
Get one NOW!!

I only wanted the GPS too & have not really used all the other "stuff" although kids play on some of the games on it. I just got it because it was a good price at the time.
The Tom Tom is good because it will stay charged for hours & will sit on the dash. Mine has to be plugged into the charger most of the time when in use.
Tomorrow I have a full day of visits booked, with my first appointment at 8am interviewing a family about 60 miles from home - I'm not at all familiar with the area, but hey presto - no map reading & or route planning to do. Fantastic - ......... go get one jeff. If you travel around a lot like me, they are worth their weight in gold.
I use TomTom Navigator that i have on my pocket pc its great :-)

Yes, they're great! We have 4 now & don't know how we ever managed without them. You can get them for a good price on Amazon or E-Bay.
Hiya - Got the TOM TOM GO for OH for crimbo... Two bits of advice: Be careful if you have a heated front windscreen... You may need an additional aerial for it fitted externally of your car - I got really good advice from the salesman at the well known computer chain where I bought it and have been able to prove that it doesn't work in my car, which has a heated front windscreen!! Also, beware if relying on it totally in a built up area - like Central London. Ours has got a bit 'confused' sometimes. So don't forget that sometimes you need to just follow logic !
Good luck and Happy GPS-ing !!

Glad I spotted this thread as I have been weighing up the different satnavs & decided TTgo was the one i wanted but not had the courage to order it yet! I was a bit concerned that it doesnt accept postcodes...has anyone had any experience of using it to find isolated rural farms & properties??? That my main worry...will it work in the moor etc?

The Sat Nav in my Fiat which is factory installed works any where. It only seems to go wrong when I decide to ignore the Italian woman giving me directions and I normally end up having a slight arguement with her and then turn her off :D
dont know about tomtom go but for the navigator someones made a little free program that makes it take postcodes, you may be able to use it on TOMTOM GO as well but not sure

well I splashed out & bought go. Disappointing it wont go by postcode & you need proper street name & house no....however have overcome this a bit by using the drag to feature on the map....ok if you know where the person lives! I then bought the postcode/speedcamera software advertised but thats not worked....think I was conned on the latter!!! TTG.....known as "tim" in this household :) is brilliant & I used it to find a show venue at the weekend....got me there fantastically!

I use a "Sony Streetmate" package linked to my laptop.
I bought it on ebay for £90 a few years ago and it works very well with a full moving map display and directions via voice commands it's never yet failed to get me to my destination.
You can search addresses by postcode or by street or just by point and click on the map.
A bit "old hat" now maybe but it does me just fine. :)

Hi Sam, don't know if it would work on TTG but there is a free program that does the trick perfectly for TomTom Navigator and I can send you a copy if you like.

I used my TT Navigator in anger for the first time today - it kept telling me to turn right where there was NO right turn - even told me to turn right down a no right turn at one point - but somehow (heaven knows how) it did get me to the right places, even if it did take a rather strange route out of town.........

Yes, mine was a bit vague on the return home from working trials last week....it wanted me to stay on the A34 (Newbury) but the road signs said turn off.....followed TTG and HE WAS WRONG!! :( Happily he guided me to next roundabout & back. I suspect the sats got confused as there were multi layer of roads (bit like spaghetti junction) & TTG thought I was on the rd. above. Well thats MY theory anyway :)

I know several people with satnav in their cars, and they
all at some time have been told to leave a motorway, go around the roundabout and rejoin it! They reckon the equipment likes to have its little joke! :D

I have a similar situation with a round about and slip roads off the A5 near me - TTG sends me out on the dual carriage way to the roundabout, then tells me to turn right - onto the A5, down to the next roundabout, and then back again and right back onto the dual carriage way to continue my journey where I left off........ I'm learning to ignore it sometimes ;) There is also a section of road which runs through Woburn Park which I often use to get home from Ampthill and surrounds, it's a lovely drive through deer park (there were hundreds of them near the road yesterday!) but TTG just showed a frosted map and didn't acknowledge the route at all, until I left the park, then it took me home quite happily - I saved 20 mins on the route TTG had calculated for me......
Also had a brief scarey moment yesterday when I set off with no blue tooth connection for about 10 minutes, I think the cloud cover was just too thick!
