Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / ARTHRITIS & SWELLING OF THE CONJUNCTIVE

My 9-year old black labrador has arthritis in her front left shoulder for which she is taking medicam and glucosamine.  However, occassionally the left conjunctive of her left eye suddenly swells profusely - for no apparent reason - and then will go down within a matter of hours.  I am convinced it is related to the arthritis but my vet says not - has anyone else come across this problem.  She has been on the medicam for some months and glucosamine seems to be working a treat. It has nothing to do with the glucosamine as the swelling has appeared over several months.

Any advice would be helpful.

I think it extremely unlikely that the two are linked in any way. My advice would be to see a specialist canine ophthalmologist. If you like to post again giving your rough location I might be able to point you towards your nearest.

Regards, John
