Just interested in what people do, do you feed your dogs one or 2 meals a day? Our old dogs used to have 1 but then one of them needed some medication in food twice a day and went back to having breakfast....now it seems that our dog, Leo gets himself in such a state if he has to wait until night to be fed that he is sick, yet if we give him breakfast hes not sick at all and then has dinner later.
Is it ok to keep feeding him 2 meals - hes 1 next week and at 1 i think its supposed to go down to 1? - his breakfast is always smaller than dinner so its not two big meals a day

I have always fed adults twice a day, 24hours is too long between meals, better split into 2 IMO.
We also keep ours on two meals a day :)

I always feed twice a day. By feeding smaller meals there is less opportunity for bloat.
I too have always fed two meal, breakfast and dinner.

i would love to give mine 2 aday, but they wont do it!!!! so have just to do 1 aday at night, anytime between 5-late,depending when weve settled down.
theres no way mine would eat two meals aday.....wish they would!
Yep twice a day for me too, sometimes when its a cold day, some bics at lunchtime and a later dinner...!!! 24 hrs is far too long...

Twice a day for my two :)

Yep twice a day works well for us, otherwise we'd have a starving dog - well more than usual that is.

Yep,twice a day in my zoo too.

I think it depends on the individual dog.
My dog does well on one meal a day & eats it all but if I split it into 2 she gets picky! But then she is "out & about" with me all day so it fits into our routine for her to have one meal.
But I do agree split meals are better & twice a day is good for most adult dogs.

Once a day for the little 'uns (25-30lbs). Twice for the big guy because of bloat (don't think he could eat a day's worth in one go anyway)
It used to be twice a day but I am out at work during the morning so I leave them kongs stuffed full so thats effectively their breakfast now.

Only once...they're all on a very small quantity of food anyway since they are all very good doers and to split it in 2 would be stupid. The elks are on about 3/4 lb of food a day...and are still on the tubby side!!

Slice of toast each & a meal in the morning. Handful of biccies at lunchtime. Another meal in the evening & another handful of biccies at bedtime.
And for the dogs....................... ;)
(Only joking - this is how they are fed).
My labs have two meals , breakfast and tea, and a bonio at bedtime. I tried once a day and it didn't work - they started sharing the pigeons with the cats (this is not a joke and you should have seen the state of my kitchen!!!!).
My 2 are fed twice a day too :D

Twice a day here, plus snacks inbetween. I agree that 24 hours is far too long, eating is one of our dogs greatest joys, why try and minimise it? My guys would be throwing up bile if they had an empty tum for that long :(

Twice a day also - breakfast comprising tea and toast and his normal dry food, then one or maybe two Kongs or his buster cube during day, then teatime dry food (sometime with added extra like time of fish, etc, liver and stuff) and a nice dog buscuit before bed and some treats for helping any training exercises. (sounds like loads but it is monitored). OH says I think more about what our Mister's going to ave for tea then he (Ohhhh poor OH) ;).

tell the OH thats that the way it should be!!!

One meal here, and they are fine with it, mornings are a rush in our house so meal + exercise in short space of time just wouldn't work! However they get biscuits everytime the house is left empty (sometimes I will leave house 3-4 times aday to biccies each time!) then they get snacks, cleaning out sauspans etc, they all cope fine on this, and have never had a problem.
I feed twice a day for ease. Mine get their breakfast just before i go and feed the owl, i spend an hour with her then walk the dogs. I like to give them an hour to settle their tums before we go for a treck. Plus, like some other poster has said, one of my dogs is terribly sick if she doesnt get breakfast. The vet said it was something to do with her stomach acid?????

We also feed twice a day. Sheila.

Twice a day here (1/3 after first proper walk, anytime between 7am and 1pm

and 2/3 at the Emmerdale ad break theme tune :-D). Breakfast has been known to be missed accidently, but this doesn't worry him. If the Emmerdale dinner bell doesn't ring he gets mightily confused. Puppy still on 3 a day tho

My dogs are fed twice a day, with a few biscuits at lunchtime and again before bedtime.
My late Rottie used to be fed once a day, with biscuits during the day and I never had any problems.
I've always fed twice a day, except for puppies ;)

My two have their kongs stuffed on the days I work, same again when I go back after lunch time, then their main meal in the evening. Pup also has supper around 9ish.
On the days I don't work they have a straight 2 meals - breakfast and tea.
