Hello there,
I have Chessie, so please feel free to ask away, although mine is British bred so there may be some differences in temperament re breeding lines etc.
Jeff.

All I can say is that I was picking up with my flatcoats, and another picker-up had an exceptionally good-looking team of Chessies, which I was admiring until they had an unwarranted go at one of mine!

In the right hands, they're very capable dogs, but essentially very much a working breed, who through their origins, thrive with cold, wet wild-fowling type work, which might freak out dogs with a lesser constitution.

Hurrah a non Chessie owner who understands these terrible, wonderful, exasperating, lunatic dogs! :-)
Not as much finesse or grace as many gundogs but they have other qualities which more than make up for that.

A customer of ours has chessies, lovely dogs, but with a much stronger temperment than the other retrievers, from what ive seen they need careful handling, but in the right hands make excellent pets, and are great working dogs!
Very good looking dogs too ;)
