CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO GET SPERM FROM MY DOG AND HOW TO FREEZE IT OR WOULD I BE BETTER GOING TO THE VET AND GETTING THEM TO DO IT, SOMETIMES WHEN BITCHES COME TO MY DOG HE CAN BE RELUCTENT, A BIT CHOOSEY SO TO SPEAK

If you are in the UK the KC won't register litters which have been sired in this way if both dog and bitch live in this country.

Basically, if your dog is a reluctant stud, he shouldn't be used.

To add to the previous replly......  and as the  success of doing AI matings with frozen sperm is much, much greater using a surgical implant rather than vaginal insertionm  it is a job for the vet anyway, regardless of the country you are resident in.

Hi JG

They will if he is dead (and was born more than 15 years ago).  I do realise that this means that technically he no longer lives in this country :D

There is more to collecting semen and freezing it in your domestic freezer, this would kill the spermatoza.  AI is generally done by specialist vets as with dogs it is a very delicate operation - so my vet informed me recently - he is quite happy to do cows but does not do dogs

Not many vets will do it.  I think they have to be licensed or something.
