Topic Dog Boards / Health / staff being spayed

Hi all

Am having my 17 mth old staff spayed tomorrow.  It's the first time I had experience of this but we have to do it, as we have a 4 month old male puppy and we don't want a litter.  Am feeling racked with guilt although I know its for the best.  What should I expect when she comes home.  I'm worried about the stitches, having the pup around as they are always playing rough, so I know I'll have to watch them together.  How long should she take to get over it?

one of my bitches, recorved very quickly, she wanted to be on her own for around 48 hrs, came home very sleepy, yes keep pup away, but from what i remember she was back to her normal self within 7 days , try not to worry, dogs are better than us at recovering, it will be a good excuse to spoil her!!, oh yes when my stafford was spayed at around the same age as yours she put weight on , so watch her waist !!  good luck xx

Thanx for the message.  I took her this morning and guess what?  She's having a phantom pregnancy so they can't do it.  I had a bit of a suspicion that she was but wasn't sure.  She's booked in on 20th Jan and if she's still the same the vet said she would give her something to dry up the milk.
