Topic Dog Boards / Health / Overnight poo and sickness

We came downstairs on Sunday (2 Jan) at about 8am and found our Bedlington had done a poo on the kitchen floor overnight, which she never normally does, and had left some sickness or more like foam in about 4 spots as well. We thought she might have been caught short as we are often up at about 6 and she made herself sick by worrying. She was absolutely fine all day. Then at 6 today (3 Jan) we got up to check on Abby and she had done the same again but had also been sick proper this time in addition to the foam. One spot of sickness was a bit brown/red/bloody which has us a bit worried. She seems a bit quiet/sleepy today as you might expect but in good spirits although she hasn't eaten yet. We can't see any reason for this to have occurred. Would sickness come and go like this with no other symptons? We do wonder if it could be to do with her due to come in season in the next week or two. There is nothing else obvious to us out of the norm (food-Naturediet, activity etc) why this should have suddenly occured. We would be grateful for any ideas. If it persists we will contact the vet. But unless it is persistant I expect they will only say to keep an eye on her.

Hi Lewisk,

Re: >One spot of sickness was a bit brown/red/bloody which has us a bit worried<

Think I'd be at the vet by now - dogs are often sick as a one off for no obvious reason but the fact that this is day two, coupled with out of character soiling overnight, and your above statement I'd advise a check-up a.s.a.p.

Don't want to be alarmist but Abby may have eaten something dangerous to her, have an internal blockage or have a serious infection going on :(

Good luck, keep us posted,
Regards Teri ;)

Almost 2 weeks ago my dogs all had a tummy bug. They were retching so hard they burst blood vessels and it looked like they were throwing up blood. Vet was called, out he came and did his stuff. 24 Hours later runny bum started. After the 24 hours starvation period, recommended by the vet, we started feeding boilled chicken and brown rice over 4 days, on day 3 re-introduced their normal food and all was fine after that.

Although i knew that it was only a tummy bug i got the vet out anyway at 3 am! I never leave it to chance, there could be something i havent thought of.

The extra £40 call out fee for sundays, stupid o'clock am or bank holidays is well worth it both for your peace of mind and your dogs health.

Hope all is better soon,
GM

We got an emergency appointment at the vet on Monday evening. Illness sounds similar to what your dogs had. Abby had an antibiotic and sickness injection and was given some rehydration powder, which we mixed with water, as a precaution. She enjoyed licking this off my finger but wouldn't drink from the bowl so in the end we used a small pipette we had. This morning (Wednesday) she has started to eat some brown rice and chicken and seems to be on the road to recovery. Trouble is, she'll expect home made gourmet food everyday now and whats more......she'll probably get it!!!!

Many thanks
