Royal canin baby dog (previously called starter) is an excellent food ~ expensive but you will see the results in the development of your pup!

MARS bought a 56% share in Royal Canin, it is Mars who own Pedigree AND Waltham.  Royal Canin still operates within itself and produces excellent quality food, but the running of the company is in Mars's name just as Pedigree and Waltham is.  Along with Pedigree, they BOTH produce veterinary prescribed diets now too.

My pup did not do too well on Royal Canin. She was always hungry but if I fed her more than it says on the bag it would upset her tummy. Her bowels were constantly very soft and she was a bit skinny. I'm sure it varies dog to dog. She was also hyperactive I was told this may be due to the high protein level. I changed to feeding raw diet and no more loose bowels and she filled out as well. The times feeding raw is difficult (camping) we feed Butchers tinned. She is not as happy on the tins but puts up with it as she adores camping.

How about the Royal Canin Labrador? Have anyone tried that?

Our Akita didn't do well on Royal Canin. He was VERY skinny (I didn't want a roly poly pup, but I did want one who didn't look half starved.) He was changed over at about 4 months & then started to put on weight straight away. His litter brother was kept on it & developed an allergy which disappeared when his owner changed foods.

Hi,

Royal Canin is another excellent food, again can be expenive but like Hills and JWB don't buy from vets or petshops, pet superstores.
You can get hold of these feeds much cheaper if you do your homework and seek out individul people who sell these feeds locally there are a few check your area out and hopefully someone may know ;-) and pass info on.

Remember always what suits one dog and owner may not not suit another ;-)

Briony :-)

I think it's good for puppies. We were recomended it by our puppies breeder and our Monty loves it!

I use Royal Canin, it seems to have a good oil content and keeps my dogs coat with a lovely shine, even when she is out of coat.  It also keeps the weight on her where other foods didn't.

We are feeding our 6 year old lab on labrador 30 royal canin,it appears to suit her,she has been putting weight on and this food is supposed to be good for weight control,so we are giving it a try.
