Failure in a competition is not the be all & end all as competing is a learning curve. I don't know whether you can do a training agility round at a show I would doubt it due to the numbers but certainly in obedience & lots of handlers do many training rounds before actually working a round competitively. They use the experience as a test of how the dog is trained & it's reaction to the pressure in the ring. I would use this experience to build on & practice on getting rid of the error with the help of a trainer

I must confess my first attempts at obedience with the first dog I trained were successful but I had had a lot of schooling & was blessed with a super GSD bitch belonging to a friend of the family who I had a very close bond with. I may not be so lucky with my next dog who knows but win or lose you always take the best dog home with you no matter what

Please join & I'm sure that there are people who compete in agility(competitively) on here

If you have done the training and its the dogs first time out she might be slightly nervous excited and alot of other things. Its not a bad sign dogs improve as they go along, try and get his attention when he is doing something right make sure he knows you are really pleased with him.

Its' not that unusual; i don't do agility but generally speaking it is best to take a dog to several different places and use different equipment so that the dog can "generalise" the agility to "everywhere", not just the usual place/equipment. This is true of all dog sports :)

Also, things can surprise you - i competed in my first working trial in November, and my dog for some reason (probably handler error <g>) knocked the clear jump twice, but managed the long jump  which was good as we had not got up to the full 9ft due to her having a paw injury a few weeks before so training was put back. You just never know. Although hopefully a highly trained dog will be consistent in the end.

If that was all that went wrong I'd be quite happy as a first show outing. I did a longish reply to another post of yours but as MM says it was deleted as a repeat post by a guest. I think this will go the same way so if you want advice I'd register it's easy to do

Also if it was your first time and you were nervous your dog would be able to sense and feel the same way too :d  Practice makes perfect as they say.  Good luck for the next one.
