Topic Dog Boards / Health / Second op for Sam

I've been so worried about Sam as you may know he has just got over an operation for a blockage and he's only 11 months old and doing fantastically well. My OH was playing with him last night and he found a big lump on the top of his neck it also looks like there is a bite there. The vet has assured me somewhat that its not life threatening but I am beside myself with worry. They are going to operate in the morning, please think of us tomorrow.

Hi
I just thought I'd update you on Sam he had a mass taken out of his neck the size of an orange that was attached to muscle he has a big cut now on his neck with a drain placed in the wound site. He has been so good I have not been to bed for 2 nights now. I'm just trying to stop him scratching. This morning though it looks like he's lost a stitch! They don't know the cause of it yet it could be a delayed reaction to an injection from his last op, or a foreign body such as a thorn or a tick that was caught under the buster collar. I shouldn't think that there would be ticks around now though. I'll let you know how he progresses. The vets don't think its anything sinister as he's such a young dog.

Poor Sam what a way to start the new year, give him a gentle cuddle from my boys & I'm sure he will be getting lots of TLC from you

Thank you Moonmaiden for your good wishes. My other half is on duty with Sam at the moment he looks like Herman Munster cut from ear to ear almost and he's got some kind of green antiseptic on him. He's doing really well though he should have the drainage tube out on Tuesday. We've put socks on his back paws to stop him scratching and a T shirt on him to protect the wound which the vet recommended, he doesn't seem to mind he is an ideal patient. Will let you know how he gets on.

Sam has been to the vets tonight unfortunately he can't have the drain out but the vet thinks he's doing fine he's changing his antibiotics though and has given me some surgical spirit to clean the wound twice a day as Sam had pulled a stitch out and a bit of infection had set in. Back to the vets on Friday to see if the drain can come out then, I can't remember what its like to sleep in my own bed!
Happy New Year everyone.

Good News

The vet just called to say that its nothing sinister it was a Hygroma sp or fatty tissue that could have been caused by an injection site.
