What do people think about these dogs, what are they like??

Very large coated dogs 99.99% have lovely temperaments & are biddable & can be very laid back The one in our village is a bitch & when she was attacked by the local"straying macho stud"lab she simply knocked him over & pinned him to the ground with no growling if it had been my GSD she would have killed the dog. She(the leo)is a very very strong girl tho'
Not a breed for a first time owner I would think, need lots of socilaztion & training when young
My Leo is 7 months old and he is the best behaved puppy that I have ever owned.OK he has his moments of madness but thats normal.
I take him training once a week and he's passed his puppy foundation and now working on his bronze. They are very large dogs and extremely strong in mind and body. They love all people and animals as long as you socialize them from an early age, I take regular trips on the bus and this does tend to cause a stir, you meet alot of people cause the dogs are unusual so make sure you have plenty of time for a walk.
If your house proud DON'T have a Leo cause they do like the mud and water also they moult for England and drinking makes a lot of puddles in the house.
On the whole a bomb proof giant. Not for the first time dog owner as they do need alot of training to get them to the bomb proof stage.
A LEO :- Mucky , Messy , Strong and Stubborn but loves a good wet sloppy kiss and cuddle on your lap!!!!!!!

They are not as easy as a lot of people think. I know quiet a few leos that are not "Gentle Giants". But I also Know a few that are. If you like a very clean house dont get a leo. If you are thinking of buying a leo pup ,Please go and see lots of different dogs at shows. and if you can in peoples houses. It may sound silly but you really carnt get a Idea of how big there are in a big show ground!! leos have been rehomed because people didnt realise they would be so big. And also temperment is a lot more important than size.

Thats why I as a dog trainer would never recommend them as a first dog The guy in our village had Pyrenean MD for years before he got his Leo & she is a very very large dog but he socialized & trained her from day one & she is a real credit to the breed He spends hours grooming her when she moults too ! He is a farmer & has Border Collies as well & has a huge old house but she still seems to fill the lounge & kitchen !

I will be getting my second leo soon, I must be mad. I used to be house-proud. I used to like wearing black. I used to like my lawned garden and flower beds. (now its all slabs and gravel) I used to have a nice clean car. I used to have lots of visitors :D :D But now I'm used to not being used to those things.
Take her to training classes, where she just passed her KC bronze on the 19th, (so proud of her) will now be training for the silver.
love her to bits.

OH I forgot about all that. Its been a long time since I wore Black .If I want to look at nice grass I have to look over fence of my Neighbour!. Very few People stick at only 1 leo. I have had to buy a bigger house, bigger cars.( Wounder what its like to eat without finding a leo hair in my food.) hope all goes well with you new leo.
I was looking in to getting a Leo but i dont think i will.
The breed fascinates me, i love their majestic stance, the noble look on their faces. I love them. But, its either them or my Akitas, cant have 2 big big big breeds and my love affair with Akitas is a little stronger lol.
Good luck for the future with your Leo tho,
GM
Im getting a Leonberger in the spring, i cant really add anything to what anyone has already said, they are a very large breed, which need careful handling and lots of sociolisatioin and training, in the right hands they make wonderful pets, they have a lovely nature!
