my boxer is 4 half years old,2 months ago i took her to the vets for ear mites, while there i weighed her she was 29 kg? vet said she was over weight and to put her on a diet so i did went back a month later to find out she was now 30.1 kg (she was given no tip bits etc only dried food)he said to half her food again come back in a months time so i did as asked month later took her back, she was 32.0 kg her hair was falling out at both side leaving large bald bits, there were scabs on her body,(mostly at her sides)she was drinking alot, very depressed looking and her belly and front of her chest looked swollen, she was ripping bin bags stealing food (which is not like her at all found it hard to get comfortable..vets said he would check her for diabetes that came back clear now he is talking of cushings disease,or over active thyroid (she is dressed) she is very clingy and when you let her out side for toilet she barks the place down to get back in..im worried about my faithful companion when you look in her eyes there is no sparkle of the dog i knew ,vet has took urine samples and blood samples from her have to wait another long week to see results, oh forgot to say when you clap her down her back it is not smooth its very lumpy vet say that its fat but its never felt like this it is like waves..please put my mind at rest
I was definately going to say thyroid problems, so it is worth getting a blood test done to rule out this. GIven the longevity and seriousness of the symptoms i am surprised the vet hasn't done this already. If so tablets or an op should be able to sort her out so all is not lost.
