Our bitch is having a mega phantom, loads of milk, hiding in corners etc. She is also becoming very grumpy with the other dogs. Any suggestions or should I just get the vet to check her out.Can they give anything to stop it.
Thanks

I would certainly mention it to the vet, because there may be a person locally who is desperately seeking a foster mother for pups whose dam has died, or can't feed her own for some reason. There are also products the vet can prescribe, but I prefer to simply keep bitches in this condition much more active than usual; don't give her time to brood - don't allow her to go and hide in corners if you can avoid it, don't allow her to nurse her toys or make nests, cut the amount of protein in her diet etc. Good luck - it's very trying for both bitch and owner.

Thanks. I have booked her in at the vets in the morning. I do usually do the things you mentioned but have probably been a bit lapse over the last few weeks with xmas looming. Before I knew it, the phantom was full  blown. have  great New Year.
