Kc recognised breeds are out there that there are no known health tests for?   I know the Bulldog is one of them, but was just wondering if there were any other breeds.

Not trying to start a debate or argue with anyone, but i am trying to do my own bit of research as to why this happens with so many breeds, and not others.  Thanks.

I take it you mean test requirements that the Breed club recomends be carried out.

WHWT have no actual set test requirements although there area  few that  you can do such as eyes.

The AHT are doing some on going investigations on several breeds.

There are no health tests advised for the deerhound adult before mating but puppies should be tested for PSS.

But the fact that the Club doesn't advise any specific tests does not mean that a breed has no problems eg - ideally a deerhound should have a full yearly exam for cardiomyopathy but since Dr Angela Bodie's research project ended this can be difficult to arrange with a vet used to looking at deerhound echocardiograms and who knows that their normal readings are a bit different from the average. Also most cases of cardiomyopathy start in middle age, so having a bitch & dog passed clear before mating is no guarantee that they won't develop it later. Therefore at present the answer is pedigree research, not testing.

Are there really no health tests for bulldogs?

None that are recommended by the breed clubs, although some breeders are now starting to get their dogs health tested, hips and heart tests should be done.JMHO

None currently though they are just starting
and there is one in Jan 2005 for breeding dogs over 12 months of age.
