Hello
Are there any books around relating to showing  beagles or any that would be helpful in showing this particular breed,We are just about to start ringcraft classes twice a week,my baby is 6 mths,we couldn't start any earlier due to him catching a serious infection, despite him being fully vaccinated i might add,i also gave him some further time to regain his weight and get his strength back,he stacks wonderfully for a good lenghth of time ,But im worried he will be a bit over excited(ok,i know he will)for a few sessions till he gets used to all the other pooches,he does socialise with others but in the midst of teenagerdom hes started to sing? howl at dogs -its an i want to play howl, and just generally mess about for a short period ,jumping up/around etc(i do discourage this) Will or do some trainers get quite annoyed by this behaviour  or will they realise he needs time to settle in,by this i mean a few classes of getting excited when he first arrives(i wouldnt worry if he was very young i think im only worried as hes not a tiny puppy first meeting others,he is well trained, and responds to all the basic commands and hasnt always done this, its a more recent thing and we are getting it under control gradually,i just dont want to be made to feel hes unruly as this really isnt the case,

Hi Guest,
We show both our beagles and we didn't start ringcraft with the first one until she was six months old as we hadn't thought about showing until then. She was still young enough to learn quickly and with plenty of treats she progressed very well. Your ringcraft leader should have plenty of patience with you and your puppy as the majority tend to be the same. It takes time for them to settle down, our youngest beagle is 18 months old and she still has her moments in the ring where she can be a bit naughty and excitable. Thats all part of it, just make sure you praise him and treat him alot for good behaviour and they soon find out how to get the treats.
A good book to get is Beagles Today by Andrew Brace, it is a really good book with loads of useful information, it does have a section on showing, it explains the different types of showing methods i.e. freestanding or stacking and why each one can be beneficial. Its well worth having a read if you haven't already got it.
Good luck with the ringcraft and showing and let us know how you get on.

All classes should be tolerant towards puppies of this age, ringcraft or otherwise.  Puppies are puppies and will calm down in time.  Have to say if you have a bouncy pup, then if it enjoys the ringcraft class and isn't told off for being silly, eventually you should have dog that enjoys being shown and gives a good performance in the ring.  :D
