Hello. I'm new to this forum, so please be gentle with me! My question is, "Is it normal for 5mth old puppies to eat poo?!!!" My two GORGEOUS Cavalier puppies do this, much to my horror. One of them is a very picky eater (of dog food, not poo unfortunately!). We are in the process of changing them over to Burns Puppy food, they were previously on Nutro. They are regularly wormed, but I have two children, and the puppies love to give kisses!(Hence my need for a cure!) Please can anyone offer any suggestions.

Yes, poo-eating is normal for dogs, though it disgusts us! If you go to 'search' (top right corner of the screen) and type in 'coprophagia' you'll find loads of threeads about it, and the possible cures that people have tried.

The best way to stop is prevent it as soon as the puppies have performed loads of praise whilst scooping it up special treats maybe like cooked chicken

My dobe done this, but only when he went in the garden, as obviously when we are out I pick it up straight away.  I would end up watching him all the time while he was in the garden and as soon as he done his poo I would call him to distract him, then I would run down the garden and get the poo.  Sometimes I didn't catch him and he had eaten some - but then he would run in and want to give you a big kiss! Yuk!  Eventually he just stopped eating it.  Someone said to me that it smells and tastes nice to them.  I can't remember how old he was when he stopped, but he is 10 months now.
