take him straight to the vets for them to have a good look at him. Any new dog should have a check over to ensure all is well. If something ios not right even more reason to get him there quickly. If he is underweight, there could be other problems. You don't say anything about the background of this poor chap - but he could have amongst other things worms.

do let us know how he does.

Hi Guest

I agree with Pam - get him straight to a vet. I very, very rarely bath my Dobes - just wash them down with a chamois leather. (The only one that has ever had a bath is the 8 year old and that is only once in her life).

You don't say where the smell is coming from whether it is his coat, ears, feet etc - all of these could indicate different problems.

What are you feeding him?

Please let us know how he gets on

I am surprised you did not take him to the vet immediatly. Poor dog an owner whos only interest is to show him and to hell with his well being, you should not have any dog.

Thats a bit strong Avant, the posted said that they wished their dog to be fit and strong enough to win a dog show, not that they want or intends to show or that that is all they care about. I agree it should be taken to the vets and that the poster should contact the dogs breeder for help on careing for the puppy. But not detered from ever asking for advice again. JH

I agree Jackie. Avaunt: I am sure you have dogs' well being at heart but negative posting does not improve matters for the dog concerned. Hopefully "guest" will get the dog to a vet without delay, take the advice and treatment recommended AND return here for more help and advice in the future if they need it. WE do not know the circumstances, the dog may only have been obtained in the last couple of days and the owner has asked advice here first because he/she couldn't get to see a vet until Monday, as, after all its not an emergency.

How is you dog??

One question re. the smell do you have foxes nearby, could be that your dog is rolling in their dirt!!

Hope that it's ok.
