Hi All
I expect you read my post last weekend about Hamish repeatedly getting upset stomachs, on speaking to the head nurse at our vets she said that it may be the dry kibble that Hamish cannot tolerate, as she told me that westies and german shepherds have got sensitive stomachs and that these 2 breeds sometimes cannot tolerate dry kibble. I asked her what she thought of the natures diet and she said that in her opinion it is a very good moist food, she advised me to try Hamish on it and see how he goes, i have over the last couple of days been giving him the chicken and rice (blue pack) 1 and he seems to be okay on this (had no upset stomach at the moment) but i am still giving him 1 meal of chicken and rice per day like she told me to do, i am hoping in the next couple of days to cut the chicken and rice out and then just give him the natures diet on its own. When i brought the natures diet i noticed that they did other varietys in different colour packs, some of them had tripe in 1 was original and there was also a lamb 1, should i stick to the same pack or alternate between the different colours, just wondered what other people do that feed the natures diet, as i don't know whether changing the packs about will cause him to have an upset stomach or whether it will give him more variety in changing them, would like to know what other people do that feed this natures diet to there dogs.
Thanks
Helen and Hamish

I feed my dogs Naturediet - one has Lamb, and the other fish because they seem to suit each one best. I don't deliberatly change, but the dog who has fish can tolerate the lamb one, but the one whose on lamb doesn't take too well to the fish one....... If you know your dog has a delicate digestion, I don't think it's worth swopping about. Don't forget dogs don't appear to have the same sense of taste that we do, and will often happily eat the same thing day in day out, when you start giving alternatives if the dog trys to turn it's nose up, you'll find you have a dog whose trained you ;)
PS - Naturediet can also be used very succesfully as treats for dogs with digestive problems by cutting it into small cubes (probably best to do this with a well chilled pack) then place the cubes on a non stick baking sheet, or some backing parchment, and bake VERY slowly in the over for several hours untill totaly dry (break one cube open to make sure you've dried them completly) They will keep for several weeks in an airtight container like this - and make a nice 'crunch' for the dog :)

Hi Helen, I use Nature Diet. I find that the poo's are small and firm. I try to vary the pack types because I think it minimises the potential of the dog developing an intollerance ( just my opinion ). I'm really pleased with the way Nature diet suits the dogs. I feed 7 dogs, so I get through quite alot, so I buy it mail order from the company at a better price than in the shops.

Helen,
Naturediet generally recommends that if a dog has repeated upset stomachs or diarhea that you use NatureDiet light.
However, if chicken and rice works I would leave him on it and now switch.

My 3 eat nature diet, and I have 4 varieties and they get a different one each meal time. They love em all :) I think if the chicken and rice one suits your dog which normally has an upset tum on other foods, might be a good idea to stick to that one.
