Oliver has had a runny nose today, Before making a fool of myself at the vet I need to to know if & how seriously I should take this?
He is eating well, Nose cold, apart from when he is sleeping, sorry to be pathetic!

A worried Annie (again)!!!

Hi Annie

What do you mean by a runny nose. It should be cold and wet. But if it's 'running' it could be a sign of an infection. Keep an eye on him and see if there are any changes in his eating and eliminating. I don't know what your vets are like, but mine are wonderful. Often if I have a concern I can give them a quick call - speak to one of the vet nurses and they will either say to get the dog in right away or to keep an eye. They are wonderful at putting my mind at ease. For example - Savannah ate a tablet of mine which could have been very dangerous. I phoned them told them what she'd done - they followed it up and called me back to say that it wasn't a dangerous dose but to keep an eye. Saved me the trip and the money of going in and she was fine.

I agree with wendy a quick call even to the vetenary nurse may put your mind at rest. I dont wish to scare but through personal experience ring asap.

email me if you need to know why, and my experience of a 'Runny nose'.

Who cares what the vets think. If you are worried then go, you will feel much better even if you dog has nothing wrong. Most vets would rather see a dog the owner is concerned about even if nothing is wrong, than have the dog bought to them too late. JH

My vets file me under over-anxious owner. Last time I phoned I up I said my name and the nurse said "Oh, which dog is it this time".

You'd have thought they'd have been grateful. My £20 for a consultation is as good as anyone's :D

Me too. Took Barney a lot when he was little every time I was worried (and he isnt 6 months yet!!). I feel more grown up with him now though and have no worries so the vet must be missing her fees. She is very nice though but I might take my old cat who is in her 20's next time just to confuse her - she needs her claws cut. LOL. I think it is best when you are a new dog owner and are not sure to take them to the vets in any case. Just my opinion of course. Gina

Hi all
Took Oliver to vet - Heart checked, Temp. taken (all OK) He said may have a little cold but nothing serious-
Then I was concerned about a Small red (which I thought was Inflamed) spot on his Tummy - The vet tried not to laugh REALLY HARD, & told me that this is the marking of his umbilical cord!!!
Last thing I wast concerned about was... his "Quivering" Lower lip Well this time he laughed & saw my very Concerned face & stopped! He also checked this out and said its his teeth & to use Bongela.
Oliver & I went off happy & content!!!! He was really nice though & then gave me the Bill!!!

A Lot to Learn-Annie!!
