I am taking a stool sample to the vets tomorrow as she thinks my dog may have guardia (sp). I've tried a search and can't find any information on this. He has loose stools 99% of the time, plenty of wind, I've only had him 11 weeks but had him to the vets twice because of loss of appetite and grumbling stomach. He was being fed on burns but the last couple of weeks I changed him to Autarky thinking he mighn't have been suited to his food. He has been fed on chicken and rice for the last 4 days and he is still loose. Any info on Guardia and its treatment would be appreciated.

Hi Spotty Dog

It's spelt 'giardia', and if you look on Google under that spelling you should find quite a lot of information.  Hope that helps.

Hi
I had a problem with Giardia cysts a couple of months ago and posted on here about it.....you may want to look it up.  One thing I did pick up and that was that you need to take in faecal samples from 3 consecutive days as the cysts don't always show up everyday due to the length/shortness of their lifecycle.

A 3 day course of Panacur, a re-test and we are all clear again!  :-)

Good luck

Panacur is the treatment for this as it does contain these chemicals :D  It states it is licensed for treating this.

I'll be leaving the treatment up to the vet. I have the information I wanted which was was it easily treatable and could it be passed to my other dog. Thanks for all the help.
