My nearly 4 year old border collie Cassie goes for a walk with a friends dog nearly every day, and everytime Tye my friends dog grabs her neck and she growls and snaps and appears really scared. Today Cassie started really snapping back and then after about 5 mins of that they started playing like puppies but everytime Tye got to close to Cassies back end she snapped again neither dog appears to hurt the other, can anyone give me any idea why they do this. Should we stop them snapping and put them on leads or ignore them and let them get on with it. By the way Tye is a 2 year old GSD x but not sure what he is crossed with

I think that if there is nothing wrong physically with the dogs and they aren't hurting each other then let em get on with it! Probably looks worse to you than it really is!

hi i have the same problem with my 1 year old border collie codey whe i take her for a walk these is a large male dog that wanders where i take her i dont know what sort of dog he is but he is really friendly anyway if he comes up to codey while she is on the lead she will sniff him but if he goes behind her she will snap at him i dont think she likes gettin strange dogs snifing her backside lol i have been told that most bitches do that to a male as they think that he wants to mate when they are not ready but im not sure why they do it
