Topic Other Boards / Foo / PS2 or Xbox?

Hi all, my brother has been asking for either an Xbox or PS2 for christmas. And I would like some opinions of both.
Thanks!

My son had an x-box. He got rid of it and is now looking for a PS2. He said he couldn't get the same number of games for it, and it wasn't as good as the PS2. I've never seen it being used, or used one myself so I can't comment personally. We have a PS2 at home. I wouldn't be without it! ;)

My son is 26 and lives with his son in their own house. :D (Just to let you know I'm not a know-it all like him :D )

My son 11 said PS2 is the best out of the two, because you can get more games and play DVD's on it too :)

We have a PS2 and also a Gamecube ....find that younger son tends to use the PS2 and WE tend to use the GameCube ;) :)

I have both and a gamecube - the ps2 does have more games for it but i have both of mine "chipped" so i can play region free dvd's on my xbox and i use it for playing mp3's etc as well as games so it has replaced our broken cd player and the dvd player we had downstairs.

But if they are into lots of games there probably are more for the ps2 since it has been around a lot longer - beware though if its for christmas i did hear on the radio there is a severe shortage of the new ps2's this christmas and they said a lot of people will be disappointed.

Both my son and my daughters have PS2's and they prefer them to the Xbox. :)

I would say go with the PS2 - From past experience the PS2 has far more games available and all big titles such as sims, GTA or whatever he may want will be released on the PS2.

It also doesnt seem to age as quickly as there are so many games available and lots of people 'trading' means you can pick up some cheap games between a tenner and twenty quid.

HOWEVER the PS3 is due to be released this summer - BUT it will cost a bomb and if you can avoid it dont buy it untill its a little older or your just paying for the novelty of a new console.

I would go with the new slim style PS2 - good value, good entertainment and any previous problems have been cleared up.

Hi

My boyfriend works for a games company - so he "thinks" he is in the Know!!!
He swears blind the x box is far superior than the ps 2 and it seems to be the opinion of all his colleagues.
There is also the "on line" gaming which is not yet available on the PS2 but is taking off with the X box.

I just got though from a friend that PS2 is better, but we won't take his word because he doesn't like Microsoft! :D
