I take oliver out 6.30 then b'fast then toilet (He is always dry in the morning) then play .. then toilet..He sleeps, he wakes then out we go for toilet- we play ,have a shot of the lead up and down the hall , treat, then toilet ..He sleeps, wakes then out we go for toilet again - Lunch then toilet... play & sleep... He wakes and then before collecting children from school, we go out for toilets!! Off we go in the car (which he is happy with & take him a flask of water)...Come back from school Toilet ETC ... This pattern goes on until abou 10.30 pm has his last Toilet & then Bed.
Anyway sorry to go on &on & on ...But if I forget after a play session ( or just not quick enough he wee's on the floor - I don't make a fuss or say anything, But when he needs an extra poo he will go to the door & cry..when do they do the same for a wee I Know he is very young at the moment (10 weeks) & if I don't show him I don't want wee on the floor (like all the books tell you) How will he know that I want him to go outside?

My Lab is now four and a half months old and after not a lot of work or effort he pretty much always stands and looks at the back door, to us, back to the door until we get the message. Also, if we're upstairs he will start to head off downstairs and ignore our calls of 'Tally, Come'. Sometimes he also lets out a whine/sigh as though to say, look, I've been as obvious as I can. At which point we let him out, he races down the garden and you can see the smile of relief on his little face:D
Not sure if that's helped at all, but I do enjoy talking about my little Talisker:)

Hi
Bailey is now 12 weeks and he will go to the back door and sit there till we let him out and he has been doing that for about a week now. :D Also do you have paper down in the house for him? Because we did and we found that as soon as we removed he started to get the idea he had to "ask" to go out :)
Unfortunatley he still isn't clean at night and i am not sure how to get him to be or if it will just come in time? Any sugestions greatfully recieved! :)

My 12 week old Lhasa has been clean for the last 2 nights. I made sure she was completely exhausted before bedtime ( and so was I!!!) with lots of play before I took her out for her final wee. I also set my alarm a little earlier and sneaked downstairs so she didn't hear me - she was still asleep, woke her up and took her outside - Hey Presto, she went straight away and got a lot of praise for doing so. I think a lot of the 'accidents' happen when they hear you moving about in the morning before you get a chance to get to them. Poor things, it's only natural to want to wee after hours of being asleep! Add to that the excitement of seeing you again after all those hours parted - I know 'cos Tilly goes bananas in the mornings - and their immature bladders can't quite keep it in!
Good luck

Hi Tracy
No, we never used the paper training, I guess really after two weeks he'd get confused if we put it down now- I think really He'll get it in time as Baily will during the night, I agree with Sharon they get so "excited" about EVERYTHING! they are just babies, like children they will grow fast, so we must ENJOY while it lasts!!!
Regards Annie

Take heart Annie ..there are a lot of us here at the moment with puppies of a similar age to yours and we are all going through it :D
Hudson is now 12 weeks old and has been clean and dry except for VERY rare accidents for nearly 2 weeks (crosses fingers and touches wood). We took up the paper in the kitchen as he seemed to think it was okay to pee in there ...then we washed the kitchen floor after every accident with biological washing powder dissolved in hot water (rids the floor of pee smell). At the same time we carried on letting him out and giving loads of praise when he performed.
It DOES work :) ...all we have to do now is watch him and listen as he goes to the patio doors and looks at us and if that doesnt work he will give a little scratch to the door and a whine.
He is crated at night and until last Friday he was waking at 1.50 and 4.15 to be let out I was walking around like a zombie ..but then miracle of miracles from Friday he has been sleeping 11-630 or so
You will get there soon ..just keep at it

Hi Melody,
Yes I'm most probably beng impatient!!.. and for all my family and friends who told me it would be hard work..i can't moan to them, cos I don't want the "i told you so's". I suppose this is why I find this site so brilliant, reading all the messages, everyone is going through the same thing. It IS harder than I thought it would be! but I love him to bits.
Happy Birthday for yesterday Keep on "bouncing"
Regards Annie

Thank you Annie :D
First from the sound of it you are doing everything right!! Congrats! And the fact that he is already asking out for one of his toilets is truly wonderful at his age. With peeing however, especially after play, they can just be so excited it just happens, so he's probably at this point and age - not actually getting much warning himself. If he's already got it for one, he will quickly get it for the other, it's just a matter of remembering for the time being that after exciting play he must go out.

My pup comes up and starts to lick your face, thats her way of asking to go out, we did not "clock on" for a while thats what she was asking, but if you say to her "want out" she jumps off your knee and runs to the door. hope this helps.

Thanks all.. Today Oliver is trying to make friends with the cats : Ben just looks at him as if he's stupid & won't move for him just "glares" and pup just moves away from him. Rosie our other cat, thinks he's the son of satan & spits and hisses everytime she see's him! and Oliver just can't understand her problem!!
Yesterday he made friends with a 6 yr old lab! I did notice he didn't nip the large lab just licked him & basically went all silly!
Anyway Thanks again..

Talking of dogs and cats, our cat had 4 kittens a week ago and is ferociously protective. If Tilly dares to go anywhere near the room where they are, the cat flies out and whacks her on the nose!
