I was surpised that I had so much damage from a dog.  I was out with my dog and he was playing with another dog - the other dog ran into me at the side of my leg, I went off thinking I was badly bruised.  Now 8 weeks on I have now had to have surgery, I have a torn ligament and a ripped cartilage.  I had the operation 2 weeks ago and still cannot walk properly.  I am now having physio, I am so surprised at how much damage this has caused me.  I was lucky that I have private health care.  My husband walks my dog, I haven't been able to take him out now for 8 weeks. Also I am going on a ski-ing holiday at the end of December - well I am going but no ski-ing for me.  I am not sure what to do about this.  It was an accident, but has anyone had anything similar happen to them and what did you do about insurance etc.?

My friends labradror and my then dalmatian ran full pelt into her legs on a walk and dislocated her kneecap. Luckily we were on an army base at the time and they came and put it back in place in the back of a land rover. All her ligaments were torn and she had to stay in hospital for a week and then she was in plaster and on crutches for 8 weeks. Not sure what you can do re insurance though...unless you have personal accident cover I guess?

If the dog that ran into you was insured, it will be covered for third party injury. You could claim against that dogs insurance policy.
